Snagov Monastery Mogosoaia Palace Out of Bucharest day trip private tour
Overview

Follow in the footsteps of Vlad the Impaler by visiting his alleged burial place, Snagov Monastery. Apart from the beguiling stories, this monastery situated on an islet of lake Snagov north of Bucharest is a treasure of local medieval art. The monastery boasts the original 16th century frescoes, considered the largest ensemble of medieval murals preserved in Romania.

Further, visit Mogosoaia Palace, essential landmark of Romanian art and culture.
Prince Brancoveanu was a remarkable personality of Romanian history. A highly cultivated humanist, contemporary of Tsar Peter The Great, he patronized arts and crafts furthering an unprecedented art renewal during his reign. A new, original and magnificent style in arts and architecture emerged in Wallachia at the time, which was to become a turning point in the history of Romanian art and architecture. The Palace of Mogosoaia that you are going to visit is emblematic of this Wallachian style, known also as the ”Brancovenesc” style.

The tour is not available on Mondays, when Mogosoaia Palace is closed.

Program and details

We set out heading towards the secluded Snagov Monastery, hidden on an islet of Snagov lake, 40 km drive north of Bucharest. We arrive in a village from where we cross a bridge to the islet. We visit the monastery, and I will explain you about the history of the place and about Vlad the Impaler, the fascinating prince and hero.

Then we drive to Mogosoaia to visit the palace built in the late 17th century by Prince of Wallachia Constantin Brancoveanu. The complex that includes the palace, other adjacent buildings and gardens, sprawls over a large area on the banks of a lake, in a beautiful natural setting.

After visiting the palace and the gardens, we may have a refreshing drink or lunch at the restaurant on the grounds of the palace, before returning to Bucharest.
