Essential Bucharest – Half Day Private Bucharest City Tour (4-5 hours)

This is a combined sightseeing and walking tour of Bucharest highlights, with your private guide and conveniently using a comfortable car. The tour covers the emblematic arteries and squares and all the major sights, giving a good overview of the city of Bucharest for first time visitors.
The tour is mostly walking, as I think this is the best way to experience a city, visit attractions up-close and take in the atmosphere, while giving me time and opportunities to provide all information and details. We will also conveniently use the car to get to more distant places of interest.
Please remember that the tour is totally flexible and can be adapted to your specific interest or physical condition.

Tour type: city tour, cultural, heritage, historical

What to expect

• Start the tour in the Palace Square, surrounded by highly evocative edifices and monuments, where you get a general overview of the local history and culture. See the iconic Romanian Athenaeum, a national cultural symbol.
• We continue toward the Revolution Square, the starting place of the anticommunist revolution where the communist leader Ceausescu held his last public speech (you will be given a short account of the Romanian 1989 Revolution).
• Transfer to the Palace of Parliament (Ceausescu’s House of the People) – a communist era legacy and the second largest administrative building in the world; I will explain you the political and social context of the time the new communist Civic Center and the House were built; (inside guided visit of the Palace)
• Next we get to the University Square, hub of activity and stage of the city’s public life. This area is home to emblematic buildings and sites of memory that we will talk about (The National Theater, The University of Bucharest, the 21 December 1989 Square etc);
• End up the tour with a leisure stroll in the Old Town, the historic core of the city recently turned into a trendy entertainment district, with outdoor terraces and cafés. More iconic landmarks to visit, such as the beautiful Stavropoleos Church.
.
NOTE: Both this half-day Bucharest City Tour and the Full-Day Bucharest City Tour  are flexible and try to cover as much as possible and to get the most for you in the available time. Basically we visit the key areas, the most important places in Bucharest. The difference is that the extended tour allows more time for explanations and to take in the sights, and more time to enjoy the Old Town.
