Essential Bucharest – Half Day Private Bucharest City Tour (5 hrs)
This is a combined sightseeing and walking tour of Bucharest highlights, with your private guide and conveniently using a comfortable car. The tour covers the emblematic landmarks and major sights, giving a good overview of the city of Bucharest for first time visitors.
.
The tour is mostly walking, as I think this is the best way to experience a city, visit attractions up-close and take in the atmosphere, while giving me time and opportunities to provide all information and details. We will also conveniently use the car to get to more distant places of interest.
Please remember that the tour is totally flexible and can be adapted to your specific interest or physical condition.
Tour type: city tour, culture, heritage, history

What to expect
• Start the tour in the Palace Square, surrounded by highly evocative edifices and monuments, where you get a general overview of the local history and culture. See the iconic Romanian Athenaeum, a national cultural symbol.
• Next to it is the Revolution Square, starting place of the anticommunist revolution where the communist leader Ceausescu held his last public speech (short account of the Romanian 1989 Revolution).
• Transfer to the Palace of Parliament – a communist era legacy and the second largest administrative building in the world; I will explain you the political and social context of the time the new communist Civic Center and the Palace were built; (optional, inside guided visit)
• Later we reach the University Square, home to emblematic buildings and sites of memory that we will talk about (The National Theater, The University of Bucharest, the 21 December 1989 Square etc);
• End up the tour with a stroll in the Old Town, the historic core of the city now a trendy district, with outdoor terraces and cafés. More iconic landmarks to visit, such as the beautiful Stavropoleos Church.
.
NOTE: Both this half-day Bucharest City Tour and the Full-Day Bucharest City Tour are flexible and try to cover as much as possible and to get the most for you in the available time. Basically we see the key areas and landmarks, but the extended tour allows more time for explanations and to take in the sights, and more time to explore the Old Town.
