“Exceptional Tour Customized to Traveler Preference”
I booked a two day tour with Cristina in hopes of seeing the best architecture and landscape scenes possible within the city of Bucharest and the nearby Carpathian Mountains. Cristina, and her private, customized tour DELIVERED!Christina picked me up promptly on our first day and she told me quite a bit about the history of Romania as we traveled towards Transylvania. Her car was so immaculately clean that I thought it was brand new! I enjoyed the discussion as we headed toward our first stop, Peles Castle. Cristina quickly brought me to the front of a massive English speaking tour and worked out with the staff for her to personally guide me ahead of the large group. It was PERFECT. Cristina’s knowledge of the castle was incredible. I could focus 100% on my picture taking as she provided me interesting details as we traveled from room to room (incredible castle by the way!). We did the same at Bran Castle, and finished our day in Brasov. Cristina knew my desire to focus on architecture and landscape so she pointed these things out, culminating in a trip up the mountainside in Brasov for an incredible view of the town below.

The second day was a very detailed tour of Bucharest, complete with history and architecture. Interestingly, on a whim, Cristina took me into an art brokerage house to show me the architecture. It was gorgeous, and the art so fabulous I bid on some in the next online auction. So Cristina knows how to get her clients in the greatest spots of interest. Very well done.

In summary, I highly recommend Cristina and her private guide service. I found her rates very fair. Don’t travel to a place like this and waste your time trying to figure things out when you can pay an expert like Cristina to make the time most fulfilling.

“Autumn Tour of Bucharest”
Cris is a magnificent tour guide. From the first time I contacted her via email, she was quick to respond and full of ideas. Our hotel was on the outskirts of Bucharest and I asked if she was able to pick us up there. She did so without hesitation. We told her about our specific interests and she customized a tour tailored just for us. Having an educated tour guide like her really made a huge difference in our Bucharest experience. She has so much to say about the country’s history and she brings areas of the city to life with her vivid narration. She gave us insight on Romanian culture, including stories about her own family growing up. We heard the “good” and the “bad.” She was not shy about telling us the truth. The city is in a state of transition with so many formerly run down neighborhoods being revitalized. If you asked her the question, “what did this building used to be?” she seemed to always know the answer. It is amazing how much the landscape of the city is slowly changing. It has so much potential and continues to improve little by little.

Cris’s late model VW car was clean and comfortable. She speaks English very well and we had no trouble communicating with her. She is completely flexible and will adapt to your needs. In our case, we wanted to “go go go” and see as much as we could during our short time in Bucharest. She did not disappoint us and we were able to see so much. I’m sure she would be equally accommodating for her guests that want to “take it slow.” If you are going to be in Bucharest only 1 day, then hire her so you can maximize your time there. If you plan on being in Bucharest or Romania for longer, try to schedule a tour with her earlier in your stay. She will give you so many pointers on how you can plan the rest of your trip. There are so many places we would love to visit should we return to her city.

I saw that another reviewer described Cris as “timid” but this is certainly not the impression she made on us. I would describe her as “fun” and “animated.” Don’t let her serious profile photo fool you! She speaks about events in her country with great passion and enthusiasm. We actually started to feel quite emotional as she told us stories about how life was decades ago under Chauchescu’s reign. Lastly, I found the rates she charges to be quite reasonable. I shopped around a lot before deciding on going on our tour with her. It seems like most of the tripadvisor tour guides in Bucharest work for a larger company. This is not the case with Cris. She runs everything herself, which clearly has its advantages.

“Wonderful week in Bucharest and Transylvania”
I feel very fortunate to have spent a week in Romania with Cristina as my guide and driver. I felt safe and I was delighted to experience the country she holds such passion for. Cristina is incredibly knowledgeable in the history and culture of the region. She also shared stories her own personal life, being born and living during the communist control. She is extremely organized and planned my trip to include the important national sites and some current interesting sites, like a local auction house and the home/museum of the artist Muzeul Theodor Aman. We spent four days in Transylvania and the Carpathian mountains. I thoroughly enjoyed the day we took the cable car on Fagaras to reach Balea lac. We walked on the frozen lake and visited the ice hotel. Cristina planned our meals in delightful and delicious local restaurants. All accommodations were clean and comfortable. I am looking forward to returning to Romania with my son in the future.

“History as it is meant to be, fascinating and informative but most importantly enjoyable!”
Cristina is passionate about Bucharest’s history and Architecture, its people, from the kings and nobles to the old neighborhoods. It emanates from her and one can see it’s real and in no way contrived. This is a person who loves the subject, and knowledgeable also. I have a Masters in History so i have a little knowledge myself on the quality of someones insight into period and place and I can categorically state that she meets the highest of standards. She has something that makes the difference between the cold facts, which can often be dull and lifeless, she has the ability to communicate her enthusiasm for the subject and to make it come alive, there is no higher recommendation as to why you would choose a guide like Cristina. Her qualities as a guide are superb, she is genuinely a person that cares that the information is understood and would answer any question asked. We spent a wonderful day with this woman and when we next want to visit a region or a specific historical site it is to Cristina our first call will be. Thank you for a wonderful day.

With Anjulee near Stavropoleos Church in the Old Town, July 2015“AMAZING Rucar-Bran Pass, Bran Castle and Carpathians day tour & Bucharest City Tour”
During my short trip to Bucharest, I booked the Rucar-Bran Pass, Bran Castle and Carpathians day tour with Cristina. This trip was simply AMAZING: Romania and especially the Carpathians mountains are gorgeous for sure, but there is a kind of specialness that is added to the whole experience with Cristina. Despite having read about the history of Romania, getting insights from Cristina gives you a real feel of the past, present and future. I learned so much from her through our great conversations. Above all, she is a genuine person and she can make you feel very strong emotions about her country by sharing her love for Romania with you. After such an amazing day tour, I also went on the Bucharest city tour with her, and again, it was totally worth it! If you want to experience Romania from a local’s perspective and really understand and feel its historical core, go with Cristina! She will make your trip a memorable one, and you will leave Romania richer!

“Jewish Tour of Bucharest”
Cris arrived on time and in an immaculately clean car. We saw everything on the itinerary and more. When I asked to see something additional at the last minute, Cris made it happen. She is very knowledgeable about Jewish Bucharest and introduced me to the wickedly sinful pretzel snack called ‘covrigi’. She also took me to an excellent source of Romanian souvenirs that was priced very reasonably. Next time I am in Bucharest, I am calling Cris again. Multumesc pentru tot!

“Bucharest”
Christina gave us a really interesting tour of the city and gave us plenty of insight into life inside Bucharest. We had a fantastic time in Bucharest and are looking at returning in a few months time when we will hopefully see Christina again!

special Jewish Bucharest tour“Phenomenal tour of the Jewish Quarter of Bucharest”
Cristina was incredibly knowledgeable of every little detail as it pertained to the Jewish Quarter. Cristina picked me up and gave me a brief history of Bucharest as we drove. We were able to cover everything about the history of Romanian Jews. The tour included a detailed walk through the Holocaust museum as well as the History museum and we were even able to go inside the Yiddish Theater. The tour was entirely informative and incredibly professional. Cristina is a warm and wonderful tour guide and I felt so comfortable on the tour with her that I did not realize that we went an hour past the estimated time! I highly recommend getting a tour from Cristina if you are in Bucharest, it will be memorable and you will leave with a wealth of understanding. My time spent on the tour with Cristina was the highlight of my trip to Romania.

“Essential Bucharest”
A big thank you to Cristina, who took us on a tour of Bucharest last Saturday. The tour was conducted in a professional manner and was well-structured. It consisted of three parts: firstly, the Village Museum, which looked at Romania’s earlier history through rural communities, secondly, the city centre and Bucharest’s 20th century history and finally the giant folly, the Palace of Parliament. Cristina patiently described the salient events. Her answers were always thoughtful and clear. We didn’t feel we were being rushed. She spoke frequently of her personal experiences, i.e. her family and her upbringing in Bucharest and in the countryside, and also of her impressions of the dramatic 1989 revolution and its immediate aftermath.
Cristina is up-to-date with the current affairs and explained in detail the background to the recent political upheavals and the scenario for the upcoming presidential elections. We enjoyed the day immensely. Given the fine, sunny weather of mid-October, we were lucky to see the best side of the city and have retained some very fond memories.

“Culture, History, Conversation”
I spent two days touring Bucharest with Cristina and cannot express how much I learned from her about Romanian history and culture. But, more than that, Cristina gave me the gift of authentic cultural exchange. She is passionate and personal while being enormously professional. It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend her tours!

“Excellent Custom Full-Day Tour of Bucharest”
Cristina provided us with a very enjoyable and informative combination tour of Jewish Bucharest and city highlights. She was on time, very professional and knowledgeable about her city. We were able to see everything in the old Jewish quarter, the highlights of Bucharest and she even helped us find a small restaurant that we previously had been unable to locate on our own. We would highly recommend Cristina as a tour guide.

“A Wonderful Introduction to Bucharest!”
Christina Iosif guided us on a thoroughly enjoyable and informative walking tour of central Bucharest. She knows the city and its history and shares her knowledge with clarity and enthusiasm, showing us both “classic” and unfamiliar highlights of Bucharest. She was flexible in meeting our schedule and interests. We came away with a real appreciation for Romania in general and the city in particular.

“Great Day in Bucharest!”
We had an 8 hour layover in Bucharest and after seeing Christina’s great reviews emailed her to see if it was possible to get a nice tour in that amount of time. She said yes and we left the itinerary to her! She picked us up at the airport and we did a driving tour of some of the important sites, followed by an amazing tour of the Parliment and ended with a walking tour of the old town – and during the walking tour her husband met us and watched the car just to make sure our luggage was safe. A perfect afternoon to learn about this beautiful city and she got us back to the airport with time to spare. Thank you Christina!

“Touring made easy”
In April of 2014, I traveled with my friend to Romania. We decided to enlist Cristina as our guide for two days. That was one of the best decisions we made. Cristina is so passionate about her country, so knowledgeable, and so flexible. We saw a Transylvania and a Bucharest that I know we would have missed had not Cristina lead the way. In addition, she’s great company. Thanks so much, Cristina.

“Christina is wonderful proud and paints the culture and history of her country almost cinematically and is by the best guide”
Cristina is always on time and is very patient and makes for a walking encyclopedia of her city. Her particular interest on the roots of her people, of whom she’s very proud, is what I found most inspiring. I indeed never felt unsafe or out of place in Bucharest, thanks to Cristina!

“Truly ‘with a local'”
I booked Cristina for a two day tour of Bucharest – the first day hitting the essential sites and the second day discovering the city’s Communist history. I had a great experience. When you tour with Cristina you are touring with a genuine local who has researched and taken the time herself to explore her own city and its myriad layers. Cristina is particularly knowledgeable about how the (very varied) architecture of Bucharest reflects the history of Romania since the 1800s: we spent two days peeling through the layers of history, pointing at buildings and monuments, reciting interesting anecdotes and stories. Cristina is punctual, knowledgeable and a genuinely nice person. All you’d hope for from a tour guide. It seemed to me she really cared that I not only touch on the essential sites and take the pictures that I wanted to take but that I come away from the tour understanding Romania and the Romanian people better; that I could then look at Bucharest alone and understand and appreciate it with new, more knowledgeable, eyes. Highly recommended. I will be touring other parts of Romania with Cristina in the near future.

“Excellent private tour of Bucharest”
My friend and I spent a full day with Cristina and enjoyed it very much. She picked us up in her clean Mercedes and took us to all the major sights. The tour was done on foot and via her car. She pointed out many hidden gems and was very knowledgeable about Romanian history and architecture. She had pre-arranged a castle tour but I made a mistake and did not bring my passport so we weren’t able to do that. However she easily changed the schedule to accommodate this. We also overpaid her and she very kindly notified me immediately and brought the additional money back a few days later and offered to take us to two other museums – the Zambaccian Museum, a jewel of Romanian art (and some European art) and the other was the Peasant Museum. Both very good. Cristina was excellent! She tailored the tour to our interests and was willing to stop when we wanted to. We went to a very good coffee shop and an authentic Romanian restaurant while on the tour. All was relaxed and fun! I highly recommend this tour – and if you pay the proper amount it’s very reasonable too! :-)Brenda Leadley, US (March 2013)

I booked a tour with Cristina yesterday and it was fantastic. She took me around the city to a lot of art déco buildings and in the meantime explained the background about the architectural style comparing it to other styles to be found in Bucharest, such as the romanian style. I got a very good understanding on the background and development of art déco in Bucharest and could ask many questions including those about daily life in Romania in past times and nowadays. Together we discovered the interior of some of the buildings and admired the architectural details on staircases and foyers of the buildings. Thanks a lot and hope to see you soon again here in Bucharest, Cristina!

Being an outsider in a foreign city that too alone can be very difficult. Specially when one wants to explore the untouched part of the city and to know about it. I, when came to Bucharest was charmed by the city but at the same time, wanted to see the city with an experienced and known pair of eyes. Searching on the internet I got a reference of Unknown Bucharest and I immediately wrote to Cris. On the day of the tour, when I first met Cris, she came across as a very warm and friendly person. This city tour has been the most fulfilling tour of my life. I not only got to know the history of the city but also she told me about the very famous icons of the Romanian culture. It was a tour with a personal touch where she took care of me as a friend and also made me aware about the city. Finally, as I will be leaving the city in a few days, I can proudly say that I have known Bucharest through Unknown Bucharest.
