The historic building of the Geology Institute was completed in 1908, a few years before the opposite Peasant Museum. Designed by the Romanian architect Victor Stephanescu, it was one of the first state-funded public edifices built in the recently emerged Neo-Romanian style, aiming to create an image of national identity.
