Old Pictures of Bucharest (36) » Sf Gheorghe Nou Church, Bucharest 1837
In 1707 Prince Brancoveanu rebuilt on this site a preexisting church, while setting up an inn destined to support financially the monastery, a common arrangement at the time. In this picture, the church -that had remained without steeples following the earthquake in 1802- is surrounded by the inn’s buildings, that would be destroyed in the Big Fire of 1847. The inn was among the most famous in Bucharest.
